Lydia Cowan & Bryan Brooks
May 17, 2008
For their first date Bryan invited Lydia to her first sushi dinner. Just over three years later, they sat in the same restaurant for another romantic dinner. After they ate Bryan pulled out a tin of York Peppermint Patty Mints (Lydia’s favorite) and asked if she would like one. When he opened the box, Lydia’s beautiful engagement ring was inside! Lydia said “Yes, yes, yes” poured out of her mouth before he even asked the question.
The home of Lydia’s aunt and uncle, Twin Oaks Farm in Ravenel, SC, set the tone for the wedding. They loved the natural feel of the oak trees by the water and chose to do their ceremony out underneath one of those oaks. Lydia also incorporated indigenous flowers and sweet grass baskets to further the historical Charleston décor.
Even though Lydia wasn’t exactly sure of how she wanted her gown to look, she had envisioned a gown made from beautiful lightweight fabric. “Gown Boutique was the only place that carried the types of fabrics I was looking for. I knew as soon as I walked in that it was the right place.” She chose a beautiful ball gown with a sweetheart neckline that was made from a silk taffeta cannette fabric. Lydia says she felt gorgeous in her gown, and she is still getting compliments on her monogrammed veil. “Bryan laughs because I keep telling him I’m going to be wearing both the veil and dress again on our first anniversary…little does he know I’m not kidding!”
